The Pima County Parenting Coalition has been selected as the 2021 First Things First Pima South Region Champion for Young Children.
The award is given to local champions who actively volunteer their time to raise public awareness of the importance of early childhood development and health. Champions spend a significant amount of time volunteering with FTF and building public awareness about the importance of early childhood issues.
The Pima County Parenting Coalition is a group of agencies in Pima County joined to enhance the awareness, acceptance and effectiveness of parenting services in Pima County.
The coalition’s mission is that Pima County will be a community in which parents are recognized as the experts on their children and have access stop all the tools they need to be the best parents they can be.
The coalition created a timeslot at their quarterly meetings for FTF to share early childhood information. The coalition also shared early childhood information on the organization’s social media page.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the coalition adapted to a virtual space and co-created a resource sheet, which included information about FTF’s funded services, as well as information from the FTF website.

Question: Why do you feel early childhood development and health are important?
Answer: Early childhood development and health are the building blocks for life. Parents, caregivers and educators all play a valuable role in offering experiences to build confidence, communication and problem-solving skills. Collectively, the member agencies of the Pima County Parenting Coalition offer dozens of workshops and hundreds of activities filled with ideas and tools to build the skills in children that set them up for success.
Question: How do you suggest other people in your community get involved?Answer: If parents are interested in knowing more about workshops and events hosted by members of the Pima County Parenting Coalition, they can visit our website at pimaparenting.org.
