[Astoria, OR] Perhaps you saw the bike shelter Tim Kennedy and crew were constructing across from Fort George and wondered what was going on? Why so large? Well, here’s your answer.
On Friday Fort George rolled out a new employee program, offering all full-time workers of over one year a brand new bike from Kona Bicycle Company. The only catch, you have to ride that bike to work at least 40 days out of the year. But from the look on these faces, nobody is too worried about that.
Fort George has a history with Kona Bikes, sponsoring cycling teams and events over the years. And thanks to Kona, that made the bulk purchase of these custom bikes very convenient. With the help of Ed Jones, owner of Bike Envy in Warrenton and a Fort George Distribution employee, the 35 Kona Rove bikes were assembled just as the bike shelter was completed.
The bikes aren’t just a reward for hard work and dedication. Parking has always been tight in downtown Astoria. Fort George employees will not only be healthier and keeping cars off of the roads, they’ll be freeing up parking spots around the Fort. And that’s important to you, as you circle the block thinking about that fresh pint of Fort George beer.
The bike program is open to all full-time employees (averaging over 35 hours a week) who have worked at least one consecutive year. Enrollment will take place again next year, to those who missed out. For more information or if you’re interested in working at Fort George, email jobs@fortgeorgebrewery.com. Fort George is always accepting resumes.
Fort George is recognized as Bike Friendly by Travel Oregon. Remember to follow all traffic rules and wear your safety gear. Please bike responsibly.
