In honor of Women’s History Month, this Astoria-based author will present the story behind her most recent novel, The Opera Sisters, which is based on British sisters Ida and Louise Cook who were instrumental in helping Jewish refugees escape from Nazi territory in the years before the outbreak of World War 2. Marianne will explain how she reconstructed these women’s remarkable experiences and share research photos from her travel in Europe during the fall of
2020.
Marianne Monson is a women’s history author known for unearthing remarkable stories of incredible women. Her 2016 book “Frontier Grit” about pioneer women was nominated for an American Library Association Amelia Bloomer Award, and her 2018 “Women of the Blue and Gray” was awarded a silver medal in the military category by Foreword Reviews. Marianne writes from a 100-year-old house in Astoria, Oregon. She’s the founder and president of a literary nonprofit, The Writer’s Guild. You can find her at: www.mariannemonson.com.
