Northwest Brew Cup is Coming Up

Press Release September 6, 2009

Many of the best beers the region has to offer will be flowing at an Oktoberfest-type celebration in downtown Astoria this month—the 8th annual Pacific Northwest Brewcup.

“It’s exciting to have the opportunity to try beers that are not normally available in our area,” said organizer Chris Nemlowill of the Fort George Brewery + Public House.

Nemlowill adds, it’s a great weekend to come to Astoria, as the tourism season has mellowed, but the fall colors are coming out and the weather is still nice.

The Fort George will be releasing its fresh-hopped Co-Hoperative Ale, made with locally grown hops. This will be one of more than 36 beers from northwest craft breweries available for festival-goers to taste.

Root beers and ginger ales will also be available, making this a family-friendly event. There will also be food and live music all three days.

After last year’s success, organizers from the Baked Alaska Restaurant have joined up with the Fort George Brewery + Public House again. Together, they hope to make this a brewer-friendly event, with a focus on promoting handcrafted artisan brews.

Proceeds from the festival will go to the Clatsop County Food Bank.
