BONUS Thursday Talk: Paddle To The Pacific

Born and raised in the Columbia River Gorge, Wilhite spent her life rushing to appointments, teaching high school, and traveling on vacations that led her to the Pacific Ocean and beyond. Upon retirement, Wilhite decided to get to know the Columbia River in a new way– the view from her kayak.

Washington native, Laurie Case Wilhite, began her kayak journey just below the John Day Dam. History and memories of her childhood inspired her to begin this journey near where her life began. Wilhite’s paddle to the Pacific led her through the Columbia River Gorge and on to the Pacific Ocean near Astoria, Oregon. While Wilhite completed a few of the stretches solo in her kayak, the adventure was more about spending time with family and friends on the river. Each of the paddles became one of the 26 chapters in the book. Experience the Columbia River from the water through the story of Laurie’s journey by kayak.

Geology, wildlife, history, and people along the river come together to form this rich tale of adventure. Slow down the pace, feel the river mile after mile, and join her journey of reflection. Wilhite holds a Master of Education degree from Central Washington University and lives in Goldendale, Washington. For more info and upcoming book, talks visit www.paddletothepacific.weebly.com
