Malt Gauntlet

After the Festival of Dark Arts in 2019, Alesong Brewing & Blending from Eugene, Oregon stuck around to brew a couple of collaboration beers. One was this really big imperial stout that we tucked away in Kentucky bourbon barrels for the year. After a good long rest, we added a pound of vanilla beans per oak barrel and conditioned on three varieties of cinnamon – Vietnamese, Ceylon, and Cassia. The result is a silky, creamy imperial stout with tons of chocolate, burnt sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon notes. With a deceivingly high ABV and an imposing flavor, be prepared for the challenge of Malt Gauntlet.

Brewer's Notes

Released in Sweet Virginia bottles and draft for Stout Month 2020. Brewed by Dave
Coyne with Matt Van Wyk of Alesong – Brewer Dave also illustrated the bottle!

Cinnamon, brownie batter and vanilla aromas round out this smooth, sweet beer with a balanced finish.
