Thursday Talks: Nature Matters

Invasion of Green Crabs

Presented by Alex Stote and David Beugli.

The European green crab (Carcinus manas) is considered one of the world’s worst invasive species and is often termed a global invader. Due to large salinity tolerances, these crabs are effective at colonizing nearly all estuarine waters. The last few years has seen a dramatic increase in numbers along the Oregon and Washington coast. Join Alex Stote and David Beugli for a discussion about the impacts of the European green crab, efforts to monitor population abundances, and beginning large-scale trapping and removal program.

Nature Matters is brought to you on the fourth Thursday of each month by Lewis and Clark National Historical Park in partnership with the North Coast Watershed Association.
